Cleckheaton Kestrels Reveal New Sponsor Goliath Footwear

Local firm Goliath Footwear Ltd have signed a sponsorship deal with the Cleckheaton Rugby Union Club to support the up and coming Kestrels team.  Goliath Footwear has been known locally since 1880 when boots were produced at Brunswick Mills in Heckmondwike.  In its remarkable history the company at one time made lightweight football boots for Stanley Matthews during his famous playing career.

The firm manufactures safety footwear for many different occupations and also has a dedicated technical brand, YDS.  Since the sale of the company by the Cooperative society in 2003, Goliath Footwear Ltd has developed niche products to carve a technical edge in specialist markets and is now growing massively in markets such as Australia, South America, West and Eastern Europe.  It also supplies a significant number of firefighter boots to the UK’s fire and rescue teams and Public order boots in the police sector.  The Goliath name continues to be strong in the construction and utilities sector where is it is predominantly sold at contract level.

The deal will see the strong Goliath name emblazoned on the chests of the team for the 2014 / 2015 season and will hopefully give them some good luck.  Abby Steele, Marketing Manager, at Goliath Footwear went to see the team as they took on Norwich in a friendly, ‘we are delighted to support our local team and see them do well.  We hope with a name like ‘Goliath’ on their chests they can take on any opposition with little fear! They are a great group of lads and we wish them well for the season ahead.’
